Hanssens Artisanaal Oude Gueuze

Tonight's first beer: Hanssens Artisanaal Oude Gueuze

Hanssens Artisanaal Oude Gueuze

Very dry, but opens with a flash of pale fruits before going all kinds of crazy-funky, as mold, hay/straw, horse/animal, cheese, earth, grass, flowers, and gawds-only-know what-else flicker past like address cards in a Rolodex on crack. Tart throughout. Finish is beyond dry to the point of arid, like the Atacama.

Very light-bodied, and decently-carbonated. Drying and quenching and very refreshing. Tart to the point of puckering, but finishes nicely clean and cleansing.

Clearly, gueuze as a style works better for me than fruit lambic—the percentages are better, anyway. Dry but complex; intense, nicely tart and impressively refreshing. I definitely liked it better than the same brewer's kriek.
Nice.
