Tonight's beer: Dogfish Head Urkontinent
Dark bread, caramel, and honey on top, backed by dried/candied dark fruits along the lines of of raisins, cherries, and plums, with a trace of baking spices thrown in. Hints of bananas, grass, and earth; flickers of something herby in the background. Maybe a touch of peat/smoke on the perimeter. Dries out gradually from middle through to finish.
Very light-bodied, with what feels like decent carbonation (though some of that prickle might be booze—it's hard to tell). Drying and cleansing and refreshing. A trace of syrupy stickiness on the finish.
A tasty and complex take on a dubbel. Lots of oddball-ish ingredients go in, and a pretty accessible beer comes out (no kind of dig at all, I promise). Intense and integrated and balanced; scarily drinkable, with very little warning of the 8% ABV. Nice going, +Dogfish Head Craft Brewery!
