Tonight's beer: DuClaw Misery
Dried pale fruits, baked almost—apples, pears, bananas; bread and toast and caramel right behind. Brandy and rum lurking around the periphery. Some spicy-earthy-grassy bitterness struggles to emerge toward the finish. Sweet all the way through.
Surprisingly light-bodied for 10% ABV, with some gentle carbonation and a pretty substantial alcohol presence. Soft but sticky, gently warming; more smooth than chewy.
A syrupy sticky and sweet take on a wheatwine tending more to the (pale) weizenbock brewed to barleywine strength, as opposed to the somewhat less common barleywine with some wheat character. Pleasant and sippable, but clearly and seriously boozy; intense and complex, but not exactly balanced. Not great, but worth giving a shot.
