Tonight's beer: Great Divide Belgian-Style Yeti
Chocolate—rich and complex chocolate—is the first thing on the palate, then a kaleidoscopic wave of flavors breaks, inluding but not limited to dark bread, ash, caramel, earth, peat, grass, and burnt fruits. Dim and shadowy impressions of dark spirits like whiskey or maybe brandy or rum, flickering around the edges.
Mouthfeel is on the light-ish side of medium, I think, with pretty lively-feeling carbonation. A bit of syrupy stickiness on the finish, gently drying and softly warming; something a lot like refreshing. Smooth and slick on the finish, but not oily.
Wow. Clearly a beer that has survived nearly a year in the bottle and turned out quite nicely. Scarily drinkable, without much warning of the 9.5% ABV, Graceful, complex, intense, balanced. There is not enough of this beer.
