Samuel Adams Longshot Three Crowns Imperial Stout

Tonight's beer: Samuel Adams Longshot Three Crowns Imperial Stout

Samuel Adams Longshot Three Crowns Imperial Stout

Chocolate, coffee, burnt fruits; dark bread, ash, earth, peat, grass more in background. Vanilla around edges; hints of dark spirits (whiskey, brandy, rum). Possibilities emerge of dark baking spices on the nearly-eternal finish.

Bready-thick, tending toward syrupy, with pretty decent carbonation. While there's a lot of spirits in the taste, there's practically no heat. Long and lingering finish, gently drying.

An impressive Russian Imperial Stout, big but astonishingly drinkable. Tons of intense and complex flavor, nicely balanced and integrated. I'm surprised (as someone who doesn't homebrew) that a homebrew recipe would scale up to this level of prduction and still taste this good. Very yummy.
