Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas/Devil's Backbone Land Ho!
Opens with grassy-floral bitterness, and touches of spice, on a solid dark-bready-toasty backbone. Impressions of caramel, earth, peat; maybe smoke, ash, nuts. Dry from start to finish.
Very light-bodied, with plenty of carbonation. Drying and cleansing and refreshing. A bit of bready-stickiness but for the most part quite clean.
A very very nice schwarzbier—surprisingly Pilsner-esque. Impressively drinkable. Lots of intense and complex flavor; graceful, balanced, and integrated. A bit more hops character than I'm used to in the style, probably because it's fresher than the typical ones from over Germany way. Highly recommended if the style suits and you can get +Heavy Seas Beer. Yummy.
