Tröegs Perpetual IPA

Tonight's beer: Tröegs Perpetual IPA

Tröegs Perpetual IPA

Bitterness on top—mostly grassy and floral, but hints of pine and citrus. Pale-bready background, with vague hints of caramel and toast. Very dry, with mineral, almost-chalky character emerging toward the finish. Dim and very distant possibilities of spices and pale fruits.

Medium-light-bodied, with decent carbonation. Cracklingly dry, and very drying. A little gritty/abrasive/scouring, and—surprisingly—more cleansing than refreshing.

A pleasant IPA, though not as drinkable as some others I've had. Intense and balanced, but less complex than I was hoping for—the bitterness seemed pretty simple and straightforward. With what I've heard and read about this beer, and with the respect I have for Tröegs (and the quality of beers they typically make) I was hoping for more. I should probably have this again before writing it off.
