Great Divide Wolfgang

Tonight's beer: Great Divide Wolfgang

Great Divide Wolfgang

Caramel, nougat, and toffee, swaddled in good milk chocolate. Hints of roasted nuts and dried fruits. Earthy-floral-roasty bitterness rises up through middle into the finish, somehow not overwhelming some dim impressions of vanilla and maple and molasses emerging along with. Eventually gets to within sight of dry, but it's a doppelbock—what's a beer to do?

Kinda thick and bready (see previous comment about it being a doppelbock) but there's a lot of carbonation to make sure it breaks free from the palate. Some slightly-syrupy stickiness on the finish, but eventually pretty drying and very satisfying, with maybe a vague boozy prickle.

Doppelbock = Yum. Great Divide = Yum. Great Divide + Doppelbock = I wanna go back and buy more of this beer. Tons of flavor, pretty much spot on for the style. As satisfying as a doppelbock can be, and dangerously drinkable for 8% ABV. An excellent beer (which just might be hitting personal preferences just a bit hard after a slightly trying day).
