Tonight's beer: Hitachino Nest 3 Days
Pale bread, with a trace of caramel/toast, up front. Something like spices lurking somewhere. Strong earthy-bitter presence, especially toward the finish. Some hints of vinegar and other acids emerge through middle. Maybe a touch of something spiritous lingering into aftertaste—more like white spirits, like vodka. All of that sums up thus: It tastes like an Xmas beer, like Old Fezziwig, or maybe Anchor Our Special, or maybe some of the more heavily-spiced Belgians ones.
Medium-bodied, with pretty decent carbonation. For 8% ABV, not a lot of boozy heat. Some soft stickiness, but finishes pretty clean and surprisingly refreshing.
I guess I'd have to call this a wild ale, having read the backstory, but there really isn't any funk—just a touch of tart acidity. It's a special beer I'm happy isn't some sort of last gasp or anything. Very nice; good job on Hitachino Nest, making something good of this.
