Tonight's beer: Kriek Boon
Lots of cherries on top, mostly dark and sweet, with some bright and tart ones flickering in the background. Sweetness fades pretty quickly to something drier than one might suspect, on impressions of wood, straw, hay, and blankets. Just a trace of something like red wine vinegar on the finish.
Very light-bodied, with pretty decent carbonation. Gently drying and very refreshing. A little syrupy-sticky, but finishes surprisingly clean.
I'm really digging this, though it's so accessible I suspect it may be sweetened. Very drinkable to me this evening. Not so sweet as to be cloying, but not particularly austere or funky, either. Some subtle complexities, but mainly cherries from start to finish. I'm worried that if I'm grokking the beer like this, there's something I'm missing: It's a style I don't consider myself to know all that well, and I've had versions that rated better I didn't like as well.
