Tonight's beer: Maui/Jolly Pumpkin Sobrehumano Palena'ole
The beer smells pungent—I mean, it reeks. Tart/sour fruit and chocolate, with vague hints of pale bread and caramel.
For a beer that smells as strongly as this, it doesn't taste like much. Some pale bread and caramel, with touches of tart/sour fruit in the distance. Not a lot of flavor here, but that's not a huge problem, because what there is, isn't particularly pleasant; it does stick around a long time, though, into what seems like a long aftertaste.
Mouthfeel is thin and watery, with some decent carbonation. Kinda drying and refreshing, with maybe a little astringent pucker.
I suppose it's a good thing, in a way, to know I don't love *every* beer I have. Not a lot to this beer, and not much of that tastes good, IMO. I don't understand how a beer so pungent can manage to be so tasteless (though it's possible my palate shut down to protect itself). It's the second beer I've had with label art that was Dia de los Muertos-themed skeleton stuff, where the beer was kinda crap. At least Sara likes the art.
