Tonight's beer: Nøgne-Ø/Bridge Road India Style Saison

Nøgne-Ø/Bridge Road India Style Saison

Lots of bitterness up front—grassy and floral, mainly, with citrus (mostly lemon) and pine strongly present, and hints of tropical fruits, spices, herbs. Candied pale stonefruits (peaches, et al.) in the background, with traces of bright baking spices and pepper and a distant flicker of funk. Pale bread is so much a structural element that it's hard to recognize it. Mild cattiness emerges toward the aftertaste. Dry (downright Gobi-esque) throughout.

Very light-bodied and highly carbonated; bracingly drying. Clean and cleansing and scrubbing almost to the point of scouring. Maybe a vague trace of alcohol heat, more of a vague prickled than anything else. Astonishingly refreshing.

This doesn't seem to have any brett character (other than that vague funk buried in the taste) but this beer reminds me a lot of Green Flash Rayon Vert or Boulevard Tank Seven (or even Saison Brett): very saison-like malt structure and body, laden with roughly a metric assload of hops. Intense, complex, and integrated; exceptionally tasty.
