Tonight's beer: Boulevard (Smokestack Series) Long Strange Tripel
Pale dried and candied fruits, numerous and varied: citrus, bananas, golden raisins, peaches, pears, melons, apples, assorted tropical fruits; strong floral impressions far behind. Background ans structure of pale bread, caramel, honey, treacle. Those flavors all seem as though they'd be sweet, but the beer is dry pretty much from start to finish, and seems to have a good amount of bitterness. Maybe a trace of spice off in the distance, with the possibility of brandy or white rum emerging mostly toward the finish.
Very light-bodied, with lots of carbonation and just a trace of boozy prickle. Drying, cleansing, scarily refreshing. A vague trace of syrupy stickiness on the finish.
Wow. Almost mind-boggling in its complexity, terrifyingly drinkable. Intense, but balanced and integrated. Barely any warning of the 9% ABV. Boulevard's ongoing streak of winning beers—especially in the Smokestack Series—continues.
