Victory Otto

Tonight's beer: Victory Otto

Victory Otto

Smoke, caramel, dark bread; interwoven with dried/candied dark fruits (cherries, raisins, etc.) and baking spices. All very dry in spite of all those sweet-sounding descriptors. Earthy-grassy-floral bitterness arises through middle to long and smoky-dry finish.

Light-bodied, amply-carbonated. Some gentle bready stickiness, mostly drying and refreshing. For 8.1% ABV, roughly zero warmth, or heat, or prickle. Smooth.

Something of a work of cock-eyed genius, adding smoked malt to a dubbel. Brilliant, it is. Intense, complex, balanced, integrated. Alcohol so subtle as to be imperceptible; something of a dangerous beer, that way. A very yummy ticket to perdition, though. Victory for the win!
