Deschutes Black Butte Porter

Tonight's beer: Deschutes Black Butte Porter

Deschutes Black Butte Porter

Lots of chocolate and caramel, solid dark-bready/toasty background. Earthy-grassy bitterness accenting the roast/toast character. Strong tangy presence through the middle into the finish. Dry into the aftertaste, with toffee and nuts emerging.

Medium-bodied, with good carbonation. Roasty/toasty-drying, with strong tendencies toward refreshing. A little bready chewiness, a little syrupy stickiness. Finish is kinda long but pretty clean.

A very nice porter, and a *very* American version of one. Lots of roasty and hoppy bitterness, but very nicely structured, integrated, and eminently drinkable; the flavor-to-booze ration is astonishing, here. A nice everyday-strength beer from Deschutes; excellently yummy.
