Tonight's beer: HaandBryggeriet Dark Force
Loads of dark chocolate, with strong impressions of coffee, on top, with dark bread and caramel lurking right behind. Fruits emerge in the middle—mainly banana, but hints of pears/apples and stonefruits—then the fruits wither and turn to ash and smoke. Earth and peat present throughout.
Thick, bready-chewy, and dense. Gently carbonated, with some syrupy stickiness ont eh finish. A vague trace of alcohol heat, remarkably subtle for 9% ABV. Pretty smooth.
A big and intense stout, complex and massive. Tons of roasty character, balanced nicely by sweet and fruity and earthy. Drinkable enough, but clearly happier (at least tonight) as a sipping beer. This is a beer I really like a lot, and I go back to it often. What wheat character there is, is present in the smooth mouthfeel; the rest is subsumed entirely by the massive roast. Yummy.
