Tonight's beer: Odell Bourbon Barrel Stout
Smooth milk chocolate, laced with caramel and vanilla. Dark bread in the background, with strong earthy-peaty-smoky impressions. Dim hints of butter, spice, and burnt fruits off in the distance.
Creamy, dense, and smooth, with lively zippy carbonation and the vaguest hint of boozy tingle. A bit of syrupy stickiness on the long finish. A little chewy, very satisfying, gently warming.
A very impressive big stout, drinkable just about to the point of being slurpable with really not a lot of warning about the 11.5% ABV. Tasty—complex and intense, with the bourbon character almost-subdued and very well-integrated into the stout. Clearly a beer that did very well with nearly a year in the bottle. Very nice.
