Odell Woodcut No. 05

Tonight's beer: Odell Woodcut No. 05

Odell Woodcut No. 05

Wood, up front, with some strong smoky impressions. Dark bread a good ways behind, with caramel/toast, dark fruits (dried/candied, cherries, plums, etc.), and vanilla. Dim hints of spice, leather, and butter.

Very light-bodied, and absolutely still. Tons of alcohol heat serves to give the beer a notably prickly character. Just a little bit of syrupy stickiness on the finish.

Really, not a very good beer at this point. Since there was almost pop when I pulled the cork, I have to believe there was carbonation that went *somewhere*. Might have been an interesting and/or pleasant beer, had the bottle stayed sealed; that's not what I had, though. What I had was pretty much like licking a wood block that's been soaked in whiskey. I've had at least one other beer from Odell that was very good, and I suspect this would have been, too. Oh, well.
