Samuel Adams Fat Jack

Tonight's beer: Samuel Adams Fat Jack

Samuel Adams Fat Jack

Caramel, toast, bread, pumpkins; ample spice presence, with ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and allspice all accounted for. Earth, peat, traces of dark spirits (like whiskey and rum) in the background. Hints of molasses and maple in the background. Darkly sweet to start, dries out gradually through the finish.

Bready-thick and softly chewy; decently carbonated with a distinct boozy prickle. Drying and awfully close to refreshing for such a big beer, with no real heat other than that prickle. Warming in the belly, and immensely satisfying.

A big beer, drinkable to the point of being slurpable, with very little warning of the 8.5% ABV lurking within. Intense and complex and nicely-integrated. Wonderful as a dessert beer, if that's something that appeals. Beautiful in the glass, as a bonus.
