Tonight's beer: Unibroue La Fin du Monde
Dry pale fruit—pears, apples. bananas, et al., with all the sweet pulled out—on top of pale bread-caramel-toast. Flashes of bright spices, and of grassy-floral bitterness. Maybe a trace of pale spirits in the background. Dry at the start; drier by the finish.
Very light-bodied, with a lot of carbonation. Just a trace of stickiness by the finish. Very drying and immensely refreshing. The only warning of the 9% ABV is a minimal trace of boozy prickle.
Probably the best-loved of Unibroue's big beers—it's marvelously drinkable—with lots of intense and complex flavors, nicely balanced and integrated. To the extent that I have them, this is a go-to beer for me. I hope we can find another bottle by December 21. Very nice.
