Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale

Tonight's beer: Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale

Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale

Bright spice up front—mainly cardamom, I think—with other spices (cinnamon, ginger, cloves, others?) more in the background. Caramel, dark bread, and pumpkins a step behind the spices, then some earthy-grassy bitterness arises and dries the beer out before folding into the spice. Distant traces of whiskey and rum.

Bready and thick but soft; feels well-carbonated, but some of that prickle might be alchol (and that's the only warning of the 8% ABV). Plenty drying and remarkably close to refreshing.

One of my very favorite pumpkin beers (along with Southern Tier Pumking, the Fisherman's Imperial Pumpkin Stout, and Midnight Sun TREAT), and one I buy a handful of every year. New packaging, same awesome beer. A massively drinkable pumpkin cookie of a beer. Intensely and complexly flavorful; lots of stuff all integrated very well (balance here is hard to define and is almost certainly too objective to quantify). A great beer for a pretty raw early-autumnal evening.
