Tonight's beer: Boulevard (Smokestack Series) Double-Wide
Explosively bitter—pine and grapefruit-centric citrus equally on top; flowers, grass, and touches of earth and spice further back. Some bready-toasty-caramel sweetness emerges to almost provide balance. Dim impressions of honey, pepper, orange juice, and clear spirits (mainly vodka).
Very light-bodied, with what feels like good carbonation; almost juicy, with some gentle boozy warmth. Softly drying, and amazingly refreshing. A little bit of resinous stickiness on the finish, but remarkably clean.
One of my favorite Double IPAs, and—now, thank the gawds—readily available around here. Massively intense and complex; beautifully well-integrated and almost impossibly balanced. Slurpable enough to be trouble in the absence of a hard limit, with almost no warning of the 8.5% ABV. Utterly delicious.
