Tonight's beer: Cape Ann Fisherman's Imperial Pumpkin Stout
Basically, it's dark pumpkin bread, spiked with coffee and/or chocolate. Lots of dark-bready and roasty flavors, backed by caramel and molasses and maybe maple syrup, pumpkins, baking spices (roughly everything but cardamom, as far as I can tell). Maybe some hints of whiskey and rum, way off in the distance. Sweet-ish, then tilts roasty-dry by the finish.
Pretty light-bodied for a big stout, decently carbonated. Roasty-drying, with a some bready-chewiness and syrupy-stickiness. Some boozy presence—dark, like whiskey or rum—but it's very subdued. Gently warming, and very satisfying.
A massively drinkable bit stout, laden with pumpkin and spice. Intense and complex, beautifully integrated and balanced. I know there's a lot of alcohol here, but it's a very subtle presence. Lots to enjoy here, and i'm enjoying the heck out of it. It took longer to write about the beer than to drink it. Yummy.
