Founders Breakfast Stout

Tonight's beer: Founders Breakfast Stout

Founders Breakfast Stout

Coffee up front, with chocolate close enough behind to render the initial impression a big mocha-ish. Dark-bready/caramel/toasty sweetness struggles into view close to the middle. Background impressions of smoke, peat, ash, grass, earth.

Dense and smooth—almost slick—with some gentle carbonation. The vaguest touch of boozy warmth—nothing like what I'd expect, given the 8.3% ABV. A little chewiness on the back end; otherwise pretty clean and mostly roasty-dry.

Not quite the coffee-bomb I was expecting, considering this was bottled just over a month ago. Nicely balanced and integrated; astoundingly intense and complex. Amazingly drinkable. A beautiful beer from start to finish.
