Founders Devil Dancer

Tonight's beer: Founders Devil Dancer

Founders Devil Dancer

Searingly, witheringly bitter: citrus—mainly grapefruit, a little orange—blended with flowers, pine, grass, and odd musky/tropical impressions. Some honey-treacly-syrupy sweetness, with pale bread and toast hanging around the edges. Some fruity sweetness and some spice lurking in the distance.

Kinda dense and chewy, lots of syrupy stickiness, some decent carbonation, a bit of boozy burn (but nothing unpleasant). Coating and drying and thick. A little gritty and raspy on the finish.

A big and intense—very big and very intense—beer. Piles and piles of hops, clearly. Not particularly subtle, but complexity goes for days; madly, giddily unbalanced, and though I might not call it integrated (there are the hops, and then there's everything else) I might describe it as controlled. Definitely a beer to sip one's way through slowly, but a pleasant beer to do so with.
