Harpoon UFO Hefeweizen

Tonight's beer: Harpoon UFO Hefeweizen

Harpoon UFO Hefeweizen

Bready character steps forward, with some grassy-floral bitterness right behind. Some bananas and cloves lurking through the middle. Hints of pepper, smoke, and soft tartness in the background.

Light-bodied, with decent carbonation. Massively refreshing. A little puckering tartness on the back end. Pretty clean, and very cleansing.

A nicely drinkable wheat beer—the label says, "hefeweizen," but it's more of an American Pale Wheat Ale, with more in the way of hops character than hefeweizen-style yeast flavors. Plenty flavorful, in any event: intense and complex, nicely balanced and integrated. Probably the first time I've had this, and I'm pretty impressed by the beer, even with the disjunction between the beer and the label.
