Milk chocolate, dark bread/toast, caramel; strong presences of whiskey and more spcifically vanilla. Elements of earth and grass, peat and smoke more in background. Lots of dark fruits—mainly dried/candied—throughout; hints of dark baking spices.

Bready and chewy; a bit of syrupy stickiness; a sizable wallop of alcohol heat. Gently drying and plenty warming in the belly; *very* satisfying.

A surprisingly drinkable barleywine that has doubtless done well (*very* well) with the year it spent in the bottle—I suspect it was searingly hot when fresh. As it is, it's complex and integrated and intense, and it's an awesome beer to sip one's way through, one that rewards close attention. *Very* yummy.
