Stillwater Artisanal Stateside Saison

Tonight's beer: Stillwater Artisanal Stateside Saison

Stillwater Artisanal Stateside Saison

Bright-spicy and lemony-citrussy bitterness the first thing, front and center, with some pine, grass, and flowers blended in; also, a smattering of grapefruit and orange and other citrus tones. Pepper and pale bread waft past. Dim murky-funky-earthy impressions around the edges. Bitter, then very dry; never much sweetness.

Very light-bodied, with a lot of carbonation. Immensely drying, and almostly stunningly quenching and refreshing. Some almost resinous stickiness on a long and almost-coating finish. Slight pucker at the very end.

A very hops-forward take on a farmhouse ale, but complex and balanced to go with its almost searing intensity. Nicely integrated, and clearly marked by Stillwater's house yeast. Really begs to be served with food: something with a decent marinara sauce, maybe, or some sort of bright Thai or Indian or Chinese dish. Very yummy on its own, and drinkable as hell.
