Tonight's beer: Anchor Our Special Ale (2012)
Bright citrus, baking spices (cloves, allspice, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg), something distinctly piney that could be juniper or hops; backed by dark bread and molasses. Earthy-peaty bitterness around the edges. massively spicy and cookie-like, but never cloying; pretty dry by the end.
Pretty medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. Some bready/syrupy stickiness on the finish. Gently drying and surprisingly refreshing.
Yum! Yet another delisious take on a Winter Warmer, from one of the first breweries in the USA to make one. Tastes less like a stout/porter; brighter and more citrussy than I remember last year's being. One of the Xmas beers I buy a six-pack of every year. Always different, always delicious. Intense, complex, balanced, integrated; a big old Xmas cookie of a beer.
