Tonight's beer: Blue Mountain Barrel House Mandolin
Dry pale fruits, hints of candy—grapes/golden raisins; apples; pears; apricots. Distinctly white-wine vinous. Bready-toasty-caramel sweetness in the background a bit. Earthy-grassy bitterness in the distance. Clear spirits (vodka, mainly) on the finish.
More thick and viscous than chewy, a bit dense, kinda lightly carbonated. Very tannic-drying, prickly with boozy heat. Quenching, somewhat refreshing, a little cleansing on the short quick sharp finish.
A pleasant if idiosyncratic take on a tripel, surprisingly drinkable for all the tannic/vinous character. There's a very strong similarity—something of a house character, I guess—to their Local Species. Intense and complex; lots of stuff woven tightly together. Probably would serve to replace some white wines at table.
