Tonight's beer: Cape Ann Fisherman's Pumpkin Stout
Roasty-dry—coffee and chocolate—backed by dark bread, toast, caramel. A sizable dollop of pumpkins and baking spices rolled in. Earthy-grassy bitterness in the background, but comes forward some on the finish. Pretty dry from start to end.
Light-bodied but thick, kinda soft and chewy. Not particularly sticky, and finishes pretty clean. Cleansing, but not really scrubbing. Decently carbonated.
I'm pretty sure this was the first pumpkin stout or porter I had; there seem to be plenty, these days. Tons of complex flavors, intense, tightly integrated, niftily balanced. Amazingly drinkable—slurpable, even. Definitely a beer to get every autumn. Yum.
