Tonight's beer: Clown Shoes Eagle Claw Fist
Bitterness up front (pow!): pine, spice, musk, flowers, grass; citrus more in the background. Bready-caramel-juicy sweetness surfaces briefly through the middle, then is submerged again into the bitter depths. Oddly, something almost like dark chocolate on the finish. Bitter throughout, with momentary flickering sweetness.
Medium-bodied, with substantial prickle that's certainly a blend of carbonation, hops, and alcohol. Some resinous-syrupy stickiness on the finish. Very drying and almost refreshing.
A massively assertive, very drinkable Imperial Red. Tons of flavor, intense and complex and niftily integrated; probably not something I'd describe as "balanced." Delicious, without a lot to warn of the 8% ABV. Clown Shoes just recently started distributing near where I am, but I can feel myself becoming a fan.
