Tonight's beer: Full Sail Wassail
Toast and caramel up-front, with touches of roast—chocolate and coffee—around the edges. Grassy-floral-earthy-spicy bitterness right alongside. Traces of dried/candied/burnt fruits, mostly dark, emerge briefly at the finish, then the beer dries out again.
Medium-bodied, well-carbonated. Roasty-drying, then quenching and refreshing. Maybe a trace of boozy warmth. Some syrupy-resinous stickiness on a long finish. Cleansing and scrubbing.
A very drinkable, cery intense dark winter warmer, with aspirations of being something like a Black IPA. Complex, balanced and integrated. One of my favorite of the Xmas seasonals. Delicious, and purdy when poured (which probably didn't come through here, sorry.
