Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas Winter Storm
Earthy-grassy bitterness, backed by dark bread, caramel, and toast. Strong impressions of dried fruit, vague hints of spice. Dim shadows of nuts and/or toffee in the distance. Bitter to start, then smoothly and roundly sweet, then dry, with a soft medicinal flicker on the very end.
Maybe on the heavy/thick side of medium-bodied, but not by much, with decent carbonation. A bit chewy, kinda sticky. A possible trace of boozy warmth on the back end. Satisfying, tending strongly toward refreshing.
Yum. Nicely balanced, very drinkable big ESB-ish beer. Definitely *feels* more English than anything else. Intensely and complexly flavorful. Beautiful in the glass, as a bonus.
