Tonight's beer: Lagunitas Brown Shugga'
Musky and tropical; floral. Pine and grass and citrus (mainly grapefruit) woven in, back a layer or three. Doesn't start out registering as bitter, but it gets there quickly—dry from the start, though. Caramel and toast and maybe a trace of spice more in the background. Resumes its previous dry arc through long finish into an aftertaste that goes on a long, long time.
Medium-bodied, or maybe a little lighter, with a lot of fine carbonation. Tons of resinous stickiness, and a finish that lingers and lingers. Scrubbing on the palate, but surprisingly smooth; refreshing as hell, with roughly zero trace of the 9.9% ABV.
Woiw. This is a *seriously drinkable* beer, big and brawny but graceful, subtle, and dneaky. Intense and complex; nicely balanced and integrated. Lagunitas missed a year for a variety of reasons, but the Brown Shugga' is back and delicious as ever. I don't know that I've ever had it this fresh before.
