Tonight's beer: Midnight Sun Arctic Devil (2011)
Caramel, vanilla, oak, other whiskey-ish stuff; bread and toast right behind. Earthy-peaty-grassy bitterness emerges through the middle. Nuts and toffee appear in the distance, mainly on the finish.
Bready-thick, kinda soft and viscous, mellowly warm, gently carbonated. Some stickiness on the back end, a bit drying. Filling and satisfying. Makes a chilly evening ... less chilly.
A beautiful barleywine, laden with bourbon-ish whiskey character but neatly held together. Intense and complex. Very drinkable, with practically no warning of the 13.4% ABV. Strong as hell, but mellow and subtle; approaches graceful. Probably just about at its peak, but it would probably survive another year or three.
