Tonight's beer: Stone/Tröegs/Jason Fields & Kevin Sheppard Cherry Chocolate Stout
Kinda tart to start—mostly cherries. Chocolate and vanilla blend in with coffee, toast, earth, and ash several layers back. Sweeter through the middle, like a candy bar—though a good one. Cherries re-emerge on the long and lingering finish, eventually ending up something like roasty-dry.
Thick, dense, syrupy-sticky; nicely carbonated. A trace of boozy warmth. Some roasty-dryness on the finish, with a bit of fruity-tart pucker.
It's a cherry-chocolate cordial in a beer glass. Nicely drinkable, and a bit more complex and balanced than the label might lead one to expect. Nicely integrated. Superbly well-done; definitely a dessert beer. The bit of extra time in the bottle didn't hurt this one bit.
