Tonight's beer: Anderson Valley Winter Solstice
Caramel and vanilla explode up front, with bread, toast, baking spices (mainly allspice and cloves) in the interstices. Dries out pretty quickly, with flashes of floral-grassy-earthy bitterness.
Bready and chewy, though medium-bodied and not all that dense; plenty os syrupy stickiness hangs around during and after a long gently-drying finish. Decently carbonated. Tends (a bit surprisingly) to the refreshing, with little alcohol warmth or prickle.
A very nice Winter Warmer, maybe a bit heavy on the vanilla (if there is such a thing). Nicely drinkable. Intense, but maybe not balanced, and the vanilla may hit hard enough to keep some from noticing anything else. For me, I like vanilla; I really like this beer.
