Tonight's beer: Breckenridge Christmas Ale
Caramel and toast and dark bread, threaded with toffee and nuts; traces of molasses and maple syrup. Earthy-grassy bitterness arises around the middle. Dark dried/candied fruits flicker around the edges. Dim possibilities of baking spice off in the distance.
Thick and a bit bready-chewy, with a bit of carbonation. Smooth, just a touch viscous. Maybe a little boozy warmth into and through the finish. Softly drying, tending almost to refreshing.
A nice Winter Warmer type of beer, laden with malt character, landing directly on my Old Ale button. Nicely balanced and integrated, complex—mostly in the malts—and tending more toward subtle than intense. Very drinkable; almost sessionable. Yummy.
