Flying Dog Single Hop Centennial Imperial IPA

Tonight's beer: Flying Dog Single Hop Centennial Imperial IPA

Flying Dog Single Hop Centennial Imperial IPA

Pine needles, orange juice; grapefruit and citrus zest, flowers back a step. Resinous and zesty all over the place. Flickers of spice and candied fruit. Bread, caramel, toast dimly in the distance. Bitter, then sweetness struggles into frame, then bitter again and very (nicely) dry. Dim hints of clear spirits on the finish—vodka, maybe.

Medium-bodied, decently carbonated. Powerfully drying and immensely refreshing. Practically zero warning of the 10% ABV. A bit of stickiness on the finish but mostly clean. Cleansing, scrubbing; maybe even scouring.

Right. So, Centennial hops are a known weakness (approaching a personal Kryptonite), but even given that this is an awesome beer. I'd have to think hard to remember a Double IPA I've had that was more balanced; the beer's intense as hell, too, and complex and well-integrated. Really, scarily drinkable. I'm *so* glad I bought a six-pack (but I almost wish I didn't have to share what's left with Sara)
