Tröegs Mad Elf

Tonight's beer: Tröegs Mad Elf

Tröegs Mad Elf

Cherries up front, a blend of tart and sweet; distinct honey presence. Dark bread and caramel back a bit; other dark fruits and even bananas mingled in. Spices on the back end, with earthy-grassy bitterness threaded along the perimeter.

Very light-bodied, with good carbonation. Gently drying, tending toward refreshing. Maybe a flicker of stickiness on the finish. Nowhere near as much alcohol presence as a 10.5% ABV beer should have.

A beer I like tons, so drinkable it's almost scary. Intense and complex, integrated and balanced (such as that goes). Roughly no warning of the substantial booze payload. One of the beers I look forward to this time of year, every year. Delicious.
