Samuel Adams Holiday Porter

This afternoon's beer: Samuel Adams Holiday Porter

Samuel Adams Holiday Porter

Roasty-toasty to start, mostly chocolate with some coffee. Caramel and bread and burnt fruits back a bit, more than adequate to balance the roasty bitterness. Earth, grass, ash, smoke woven into the background. Roasty, then a little sweet, then dries out plenty.

Solidly medium-bodied, with good and lively carbonation. A bit chewy and sticky, gently drying on the long, slightly syrupy finish. Comfortably walks a border between filling/satisfying and refreshing.

A very tasty porter, indeed. I do wish this beer were available more often, or in its own 6-packs, or something. It's definitely one of the highlights of the Winter Classics mixed 12-pack. Intense and complex, balanced and integrated; there's a pretty impressive flavor-to-booze ratio. Yum.
