Tonight's beer: Aecht Schlenkerla Eiche
Caramel and smoke blended and woven tightly, with bread and toast mingling in. Nutty-toffee impressions a bit more to the background. Earthy-grassy bitterness flickering in the distance.
Bready and chewy, tending toward the thick. Softly carbonated. A bit of stickiness, through and beyond the finish. A little warming and gently drying.
A big and burly doppelbock, laden with smoky-sweet threads of flavor. Intense and complex, beautiful from start to finish. Fronted by the smoke but not overpowered by it. Not a lot of alcohol presence, for a 8% ABV beer. I love doppelbocks and I like rauchbiers; I'm clearly in the target market for this beer. Delicious.
