Boulevard/Pretty Things Stingo

Tonight's beer: Boulevard/Pretty Things Stingo

Boulevard/Pretty Things Stingo

Dark bread/toast, caramelized to the point of almost-buttery; some dried/candied fruits (cherries, figs, plums, et al.) threaded throughout. A flicker of brighter tarter fruitiness around the middle. Some earthy-grassy bitterness arises into and past the finish, as the beer dries out some. A trace of booze sitting in a corner somewhere, mostly whiskey and brandy.

Maybe a bit heavier than medium-bodied, decently-carbonated. A bit of alcohol heat, moderately drying. Pretty smooth, with a vague, gentle pucker. A little bit round.

A brilliant beer on its own merits, whatever one makes of the the style. I have no idea what the respective brewers brought to this, but I like it tons. I don't know Pretty Things, particularly, but I've heard good things about them (and Boulevard is reliably awesome). Intense and complex, balanced and integrated; surprisingly drinkable, with very little boozy presence for 8.5% ABV. Yum.
