Tonight's beer: Brewer's Art St. Festivus

Brewer's Art St. Festivus

Dark bread, toast, hints of roast—more chocolate than coffee—to open, with some caramel emerging into the middle; dark dried/candied fruits glow all around—cherries, plums, grapes, figs—with spices dancing through the interstices. Earthy-grassy bitterness emerges on the finish as the beer gradually dries out. A trace of dark spirits.

Light-bodied, explosively carbonated. Briskly drying and immensely refreshing, with maybe a softly-warming boozy kiss. The finish is quick and sharp and remarkably clean.

A delicious, subtly-spiced Belgian Strong Dark Ale; very drinkable. Not a lot of warning of the 8.5% ABV the beer is packing. Intense and complex as heck; nicely-integrated, astonishingly well-blanced. Subtle and graceful, tending toward sneaky. A marvelous holiday beer.
