Heavy Seas Black Cannon

Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas Black Cannon

Heavy Seas Black Cannon

Pine, citrus, flowers, grass: loads of complex bitterness on top and in front. Coffee, chocolate, dark toast in the underbelly. Earth and ash in the interstices, and just a vague brush with caramel sweetness. Bitter and dry from start to finish.

Medium-bodied, with decent carbonation. Tending toward ashy-roasty-drying, very quenching and refreshing. Some resinous, kinda syrupy stickiness into and through and beyond the finish.

An excellent Black IPA, locally made (for me). Intense and complex, niftily integrated. Wickedly drinkable. Heavy Seas is another nearby brewery I've come to admire and respect tons; this beer is a good example why. It's a pity this is only available three months of the year.
