Tonight's beer: König Ludwig Weissbier
Pale fruits and dark spices dominant: bananas and bright citrus (lemons?); cloves and allspice. Behind those expected flavors, pale bread, smoke, pepper, grass, and flowers dance and flicker and weave. A surprising flash of something a lot like vanilla on the finish, as the beer shifts a bit toward tart.
Light-bodied and well-carbonated, very smooth .Gently-drying and immensely refreshing. A bit of puckering tartness toward the finish. Lingers a bit, but winds up pretty clean.
I suppose it's not a surprise that a hefeweizen bearing the Bavarian Royal Crest is a very good one. A 5.5% ABV, it's tough to complain about the flavor-to-booze ratio here; intense and complex and balanced and integrated. Gloriously drinkable.
