Tonight's beer: Lagunitas Brown Shugga'
Caramel, brown sugar, molasses, with a healthily unbalancing wallop of citrussy-piney-floral bitterness; undertones of blended musky tropical fruits, grass, earth. Bread, toast, spice, candied/dried fruits flickering in the distance. Surprisingly, a flash of coffee.
Medium-bodied, with lots of carbonation. A bit of chewiness, and a sizable wad of resinous-syrupy stickiness toward and through the finish. A trace of boozy prickle. Drying, and a lot like refreshing.
Egad! Kinda like a barleywine, but there's a lot of hops character and complexity for that, even for an American version; still, a stunningly drinkable beer, with almost no boozy presence—especially considering the 9.9% ABV. Intense and complex as hell; maniacally unbalanced but nicely integrated. Delicious: One of the beers I look forward to, this time of hear, that's not Xmas-themed.
