Pipeworks Ninja vs. Unicorn

Tonight's beer: Pipeworks Ninja vs. Unicorn

Pipeworks Ninja vs. Unicorn

Explosive bitterness ... well ... explodes into my mouth with the first sip: Mostly-orangey citrus, pine, flowers, grass; impressions of melons and tropical fruits; a background flicker of crushed aspirin. A little bit of bready-caramel sweetness, struggling to make its presence known. Bitter, then a little juicy, then dust-dry.

Medium-bodied, decently-carbonated. Maybe a bit more alcohol heat than I'm used to in a Double IPA. Drying and kinda refreshing still, but warming, too. A big heap of resinous stickiness on the finish.

A bit and complex and kinda crazy Double IPA. Tons and tons of bitterness, with just enough sweetness to throw the bitterness into stark relief. Intense and complex (even if the complexity is almost entirely in the bitterness) and intentional; something like integrated but nothing at all like balanced. Pretty drinkable, for all the madness.
