Tonight's beer: Samuel Adams Chocolate Bock
Chocolate—rich and dark but gently sweet—dominates, with caramel, dark bread, toast blended in. Earthy-grassy bitterness in the background, with impressions of grass, smoke, coffee, toffee, nuts woven in.
Medium-bodied, with decent carbonation. A little drying, more filling and satisfying than refreshing. Some syrupy stickiness on the finish.
Chocolate from start to finish, dark and rich, nicely integrated into a nark, bocky lager. Intense and complex, but not really balanced. Impressively drinkable. Yet another excellent beer from the Winter Classics box.
